Abstract

JMA operational limited area model is applied to a prediction experiment over the tropical belt. In the experiment, time varying lateral boundary is provided by a global model forecast. The balanced initial field is obtained by normal mode initialization. The maintenance and movement of a monsoon depression and associated rainfall area are predicted well. The development of the depression in the early stage is also predicted .
