Abstract

A diurnal variation in the organisation of cloud bands around the cyclonic storm was the main peculiarity of the Arabian Sea cyclone of June 1976, as observed by the radar. Also the occurrence of heavy rainfall on the coast was seen to lag behind the cyclone. This has been explained on the basis of possible formation of vortices on the right rear quadrant of the cyclone as indicated by the radar observations. Detailed radar observations and tentative explanations for the phenomena are presented.
