Abstract

The radiosonde observations for the four synoptic hours 00, 03,12 and 15 GMT for New Delhi Nagpur and Madras have been utilised to study the diurnal variation of upper air temperatures. Nocturnal cooling of the order of 1° to 2° K is indicated. Between the levels 850-300 mb the apparent diurnal range is found to vary from 003° to 4'5°K. The variation of the diurnal range with latitude, altitude and season is also examined.
