Abstract

A study has been made of the favoured sectors and ranges at which thunderstorms developed around Madras during monsoon months (June-September) in 1959, with the help of a storm detecting radar, Decca Type 41.  The favoured times of their formation as well as the speed and direction of movement have been examined.  The relevant features observed are discussed in the paper.
