Water vapour in the stratosphere Most of what we know about water vapour in the stratosphere has come from the development of the frost-point hygrometer by Dobson, Brewer and Cwilong (1946) and its regular use in the Meteorological Research Flights of the U.K. Meteorological Service. Additional information is available for the study of mother-of-pearl clouds in Scandi-navia and Russia, some measurements made in U.S.A. with balloon-borne frcet-point hygrometer, and a few aircraft measurements of infra-red absorption by water vapour iu U.K. and U.S.A.
