A study of fifty years rainfall of Madras city

Daily normal rainfall, three day normal, three day moving normal, mean and extreme monthly totals, frequency of rapines of each calendar date, mean intensity par rainy day, proportion of rain occurring in different ranges of 24- hour intensities, frequency of rainy spells in different lengths intervals between rainy spells, spell of heavy rain, exceptionally heavy rains and variability of rainfall from year to year were worked out ifor Madras city for the fifty year period 1891-1940. The calendar dates on which rain never occurred were observed to be fresh week or second half jof March. In many years, February March and April were dry. March is the driest month. Rain in October and November accounted for more than normal of the year. A poor October rainfall will be compensated by a good November.
