Abstract

Satellite Infrared Spectrometer (SIRS) measurements obtained from Nimbus III offer for the - first time an opportunity to estimate the vertical temperature distribution over the Indian (Tropical) region. The vertical temperature distribution at three Indian R. S. stations (New Delhi, Bombay and Visakhapatnam) on 14 and 15 May 1969 have been calculated from the radiation data taken by SIRS spectrometer in the 15 micron carbon dioxide band, close to these three stations. The calculated values show good agreement upto 100mb.
