The suitability of a green vegetative cover as a standard surface for climatological computations of net radiation and the paucity of data on total daily long wave flux are discussed. The net radiation and associated data for bare soil at Poona are analysed and it is inferred that the night time pyrgeometric observations might be representative to obtain the long wave flux for the day as a whole.
