Abstract

Independence of rainfall during monsoon season at representative Indian stations over time scales of 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 days has been investigated. Chi-square tests have been applied to test the null hypothesis of independence against the alternative hypothesis of non-Independence or association. The study reveals that, (i) rainfall over time scales of 5 and 10 days is not pair wise independent for consecutive periods but is pair wise independent for (iii) rainfall over all the title scales considered In this study is not tripletwise Independent. The significance of these features for the combination of frequency distributions is discussed.
