The parameters of 30 shocks in the Beas Project area in the foothills of Himalayas have been determined and from them the velocities of different phases within the crust have been calculated. All the 30 events were found to be of shallow focal depth, their foci lying within the granitic layer. The mean thickness of granitic and basaltic layers in this area was calculated as 24 and 21 km respectively and the depth of Moho as 45 km. The results have been verified for different focal depths.
