Considering the thermal relationship between a bare soil and the atmosphere immediately above it, the mean daily soil temperatures at a depth of 5 to 10 cm have been calculated for the non-rainy months, from the daily mean Stegenson Screen temperature at three different stations in India. The result agree well with the observed soil temperature.
