Abstract

For forecasting clear air turbulence, Richardson’s Number Ri is one of the widely used parameters. With increase in air traffic and aircraft operating at very high altitudes, the necessity for providing accurate information on turbulence in clear air is keenly felt. To facilitate the evaluation or Ri as soon as the upper air messages are received, nomograms and tables have been worked out and two simple methods are described for calculating Ri quickly.
