Abstract

In 2015, three synoptic-scale weather systems affected Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry during the NE Monsoon season, causing extensive rainfall activity. Extremely heavy rains occurred over Chennai and surrounding districts, due to which Chennai was fully inundated. Rain rate of the order of 100-200 mm/hour led to cloudburst over Chennai.  In this paper, we have used radar data to examine and substantiate the cloud burst that led to these torrential rains over Chennai during 8-9 November and 30 Nov-2 December 2015
