Abstract

Occurrence of supernormal radar propagation the 3-cm band around Madras has been investigated.  The results generally agree with the findings of Durst (1946).  The temperature and humidity distribution giving rise to favourable Refractive Index gradients in the various seasons and the wind distribution and synoptic features aiding the setting in of super-refraction are discussed.

The occurrence of super-refraction prior to formation of mist or fog has also been discussed in relation to its forecasting value.
